Being a rainbow of kindness to someone’s gray cloud

“Sometimes it takes only one act of kindness and caring to change a person’s life.” – Jackie Chan

Imagine you had a tough day at university and upon returning home, your neighbor surprises you with a scrumptious dinner. Imagine, you have been anxious due to the excess workload and your friend calls you to check on you. These might seem like tiny, insignificant acts but it will considerably enhance one’s mood and bring a smile to the face.

Stranger or friend, there are a million ways to brighten up anyone’s day. Listed below are just a few.

Compliments go a long way

Being in the habit of complimenting people around us, uplifts our mood and builds positive energy. Compliment a person and let them know what you appreciate within them. If you tell someone that their smile is beautiful, there are great chances that they will come back to you with the same smile and give away happy vibes in the following days. It helps to build an optimistic and joyful outlook toward life and all its challenges.

A genuine compliment goes a longer way than an off pat one. They can spark creativity, and most importantly, it is free. Sometimes, it might be challenging to be kind with all the struggles and difficulties you might be facing. During those times, be kind to yourself first, consequently  giving you the energy to be kind to others. Next time when you meet someone and find something that stands out about them, make sure you compliment them with all your heart and soul. Make them feel loved.

Happiness is getting a phone call from a loved one

Do you know of someone who is struggling emotionally? Make their day with a simple phone call. Dial their number and ask them about their day, their health, or even about their family. Lend them the ear they have always wanted and assure them that you are accessible.

Appreciate their efforts and acknowledge their feelings. This simple act of yours would make you both smile. One thing leads to another and now you both have tears from laughing. This heartfelt talk could make them feel better emotionally. A small conversation of yours could deepen your bond and build trust. Remember, the more we uplift others, the more we are uplifting ourselves.

Nothing is more honourable than a grateful heart

A little gratitude can take us to great heights. Receiving the smile of someone to whom you have expressed your appreciation will elevate your mood and make you feel better. Say thank you to someone. Let them know how grateful you are for everything they’re doing. Studies from positive psychology show that gratitude is linked to positive wellbeing and happiness (Lin, 2015).

Grateful people have healthier hearts and stronger mental health. Our outlook on life becomes optimistic just by showing gratitude. According to David Chan’s study (2010), gratitude helps with deeper sleep cycles and increases one’s confidence. Take a moment and think about that one person you have always wanted to thank. Convey your thankfulness to them for their generosity, affection and support.

Spread some loaf!

Tasty food can make our hearts and souls content. Treat your neighbors to something you prepared and make their day blissful. Sharing food helps build love and trust. If there’s a delectable dish on your table, share the treat with the people who stay a few meters away from you. Do not be like Joey!

The good thoughts and the pure intentions that go behind making food for others makes you a better person. Surprisingly, it will also help to rediscover the art of having conversations. Next time when you make something that’s delicious and worth sharing, pack some of that love for the people next door.

You are mistaken if you think that kindness will bring no benefits to your life. Compassion can elevate your happiness. Joy comes from making those around you happy. Kindness elicits positive emotions and reduces the negativity around you. It has a positive effect on your mental health and wellbeing. When you are nice to someone, you are inspiring them to be nice to others as well. And hence the saying, “kindness is contagious.”

When it comes to kindheartedness, there are no small or big acts. It all depends on your intentions. Unbelievably, a simple act of kindness can make someone’s day or week. Smiles, good intention and thoughtful action can make one cheery. It doesn’t matter how petite or huge the deed is, what matters is your sincerity and genuineness.

Like Hada Bejar quotes, “The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose.” This tool of kindness will not just empower the receiver but will also elevate the giver.
