Virtual Celebrations during Christmas

The classic Christmas celebrations of gathering around the tree, opening presents and enjoying delicious food with friends and family during the holiday season is something we all look forward to. However, amidst the pandemic, the way we conduct our celebratory gatherings has changed completely. In turn, one thing that has evolved is the way we celebrate togetherness during the festivity. Since the holidays are something we fondly anticipate, carousing during the festive season while being socially distant is quite challenging. Therefore, the invention of virtual celebrations has provided a brilliant way to prevent any halt to the joyful occasions; and here are a few ways you could do so.

Virtual baking and cooking classes

One highlight of every holiday season is the unique, scrumptious food. But it is more thrilling when you get to share your talent with friends and family. Conducting cooking and baking classes, or sessions for your family and friends, would not only help you learn some kitchen etiquette, but also make some memories that you will cherish down the road.

Online holiday bingo

A Christmas-themed bingo is perfect to get you into the holiday spirit. The sheer excitement you get by getting five in a row really adds a little delight to the festivities. You can add in some prizes like iTunes gift cards to engage people’s interests.

Holiday trivia quiz

Did you know, the idea of gingerbread houses comes from the well-known fairytale, Hansel and Gretel? It is exciting to learn more about the joyous day and no better way to go about it than a holiday-themed brain-teaser session. Christmas trivia quizzes are not only exhilarating but also make for a wonderful Zoom holiday party.

Dress the part

Seemingly, a festive ritual inspired by the 1980’s is the ugly sweaters. Today, people who merrily celebrate the day, take to decorating their sweaters and make it as flashy (and tacky) as they possibly can. Gather your unused ornaments, tinsels, paints and gloves, get styling, and show up to your special Zoom hangout looking like a decked-up tree!

Christmas scavenger hunt

If you have younger, nosy siblings, a Christmas scavenger hunt is a brilliant way to keep them pumped up for the holiday. Two people can take the responsibility of setting up the scavenger hunt and then during a Zoom call with your family, you can share the clues for the appointed elves to find the gifts. If you are planning to send across gifts to your family and loved ones, then you can use this opportunity to find creative ways to hide the gifts and make clues fit to look for them around the house.

Charades

This is a great way to show off your mimicking skills and have a laugh along the way. All you will need is a bit of imagination and a big group of cheerful people to join in. Moreover, it is the perfect pay for a budget-friendly and interactive merry day. One could list down their favourite holiday-themed movies, shows and food to act out.

Virtual potluck

If you are into shows such as Hell’s Kitchen or MasterChef, a virtual potluck is something you would be interested in. Food is a big part of such festivities and regardless of how far you are from your friends and family, get your close ones to partake in an organised virtual food party on Christmas Day. Each one would have to create something special while on call, and the first one to curate a presentable and tasty dish would win the potluck. Willingly, everyone could share a recipe card of what they created.

Host a talent show

Christmas caroling is something that remains iconic to the occasion, however, due to social distancing rules, participating in group singing would be difficult. Whether you like singing, dancing or playing instruments, a virtual talent show is a fantastic way to entertain everyone during your virtual Christmas party. You can pre-record performances and have a watch party with all your friends and family to ensure that lagging video calls do not spoil the fun. You can also offer awards for Best Performer, Runner-Up and Most Creative Performer to get people enthused about this.

Let us all remember that the holiday season celebrates a sense of joy and giving. This Christmas, try your best to give to someone in need. You could donate some clothes to an orphanage or offer food to workers, or surprise your house help with a gift. This really goes a long way to bring a smile onto their faces. With all the changes that have occurred this year amidst the pandemic, spreading a little joy is something we all can do. Stay home, stay safe and have yourselves a merry little Christmas.
